Citizens for Vail Incorporation Committee submits petition to Pima County | News
Originally submitted by George Mower, Citizens for Incorporation Committee:
The Town of Vail is one step closer to gaining its independence. On June 6, the Citizens for Vail committee submitted the required petitions with signatures to Pima County. This was the next in a series of steps necessary to get the incorporation effort on the ballot for an upcoming election.
Based on the population of the proposed Town of Vail, 722 valid signatures, or 10 percent of registered voters living within the proposed boundaries are required to place the incorporation initiative on the ballot.
We want to thank the Pima County Recorder’s Office for providing a list of registered voters living in this area. Our own unofficial review of signatures against the list provided by County indicated we exceed the required number of signatures.
It is our understanding that with the submission of the petitions, all of the requirements to move this incorporation effort to election have been met. It is now up to Pima County to complete their validation count and put this measure before the citizens of Vail to decide the outcome. There should be plenty of time for this incorporation effort to be placed on the ballot for the November election.
